Kazbegi is worth visiting, but the trip works best when you do not rush it. A day trip from Tbilisi can work if your time is tight, but one overnight in Stepantsminda is the better choice for most first-time visitors.
Keep the plan simple: Gergeti Trinity Church, one easy outdoor stop, enough time for the Georgia Military Highway, and a backup if clouds hide Mount Kazbek. If you want bigger hikes, give Kazbegi two or three nights and let the mountains set the pace.
